Extension of Suspension: No regrets leaving PDP for APC — ALGON

..says defection not about suspension

Sequel to the lingering issue of suspension of executive and legislative members of local government in Kwara State, the suspended Chairmen of the sixteen local governments in the state have said that they left PDP for good and have no regrets jumping ship.

The chairmen said the 'hue and cry' about the six months extention of their suspension by the state government is not strange in politics. It is a subject to investigation which may end before the suspension time frame lapses.

Recall that the chairmen left the PDP at the first quarter of this year, at the All Progressives Congress, APC campaign flag-off for the Patigi State Constituency bye-election and formally did same at their respective local governments.

Speaking with Shopenonline in a telephone interview today, the ALGON state chairman, Hon. Joshua Omokanye Jalala, said that despite the extension of suspension of the local government council by the state government, owing to the ongoing investigation by the anti-grant agency, they are not in anyway discouraged on their new political marriage.

He explained that contrary to the insinuation that they left PDP to gain a soft landing from the APC and actualise their reinstatement back to the office, they joined APC to work for the overall interest and progress of Kwara.

Jalala said: “In my political history, I have never seen a decision that is so controversial and popular with the people. We are here in APC to strengthen democracy and to make sure that it works in this state.

“Myopism has made some people see us as neophytes in the party who only seek asylum to shield from penalty of misconduct, far from it! We are respected in APC. Right from the time they started talking with us, they have shown respect. They welcomed us like a family. We know what it used to be when situation like this arises, we thank the Governor and the leadership of the party for embracing us and stretching hand of love and support to us.

“We are not afraid. We don’t see any decision we have taken in recent time that we so strongly believe in like this APC. We believe that it is a step in the right direction that will help this state.”

“The problem we have in life is that people will always want you to do things in their own ways, and once you don't do their bidding, you get bullied, booed or condemned. Though it may look difficult to be in APC at this time but we have conviction that the party will not fail us,” Jalala said.

"On the suspicion that local government chairmen decamped to APC to actualise personal bid, there was no truth in it. I don't know where such speculations and insinuations are coming from. I am a progressive minded person, and the love of my state, to me, supercedes every other things. Myself and my colleagues have no regret joining APC because the current administration under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq motivate us to do so. We have made a unanimous agreement within ourselves to support the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's led administration with heart and might to actualize a greater Kwara,” he added.

He however, advised that people should stop taking politics like religion where converting to other divides makes you a backslider. Hence, we must embrace the constant thing called 'change' and also respect one and other interest in our dealings.
