The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) has appeal to the federal government to extend more relief items to kwara state government to fight the spread of corona-virus in the state.
The appeal was made today while the Association distribute food items and cash worth thousands of naira to the vulnerable people and indigenes of Ilorin emirate.
Presenting the items, the National President of the Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salaudeen said the gesture is third phase of its distribution of food items since the commencement of the corona-virus across the country.
Alhaji Salaudeen said the appeal became necessary to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country, adding that the exercise is to complement the efforts of the state government during this hard time of COVID-19 pandemic across the state.
The National President also called on Federal Ministry of Health, President Task Force on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to assist kwara government in the area of palliative measures to alleviate the suffering of the people during this period of total lockdown in the state.
Alhaji Salaudeen commended the state Governor, Mallam AbdulrRahman Abdulrasak for the measures put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state and charged him to make more efforts for the people of the state during this time of total lockdown.
Also speaking, the National Vice-President of the Association, Alhaji Muritala Ottan thanked those contribute to the success of the exercises and urged them not to relent on their humanitarian services.
Alhaji Ottan noted that corona-virus is a global deadly disease that daily increase of confirmed cases in Nigeria and across the world, saying is required collective responsibility of all.
Alhaji Ottan explained that citizens needed support from government especially during this hard time of total lockdown in the state, particularly those that depends on daily earnings, aged and vulnerable people.
In a remark, the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Uthman Jagunma noted that government alone can not shoulder the responsibility of the total lockdown without the support of individuals, groups, Association and Philanthropist in the society.
Alhaji Jagunma called on people of the state to take responsibility by engaged in washing of hands frequently with soap and avoid touching of face and high-contact surfaces to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Alhaji Jagunma also implorded the kwarans to use the occasion of total lockdown to prayed Allah to take control of the COVID-19 and other challenges confronting the nation.
