OPINION : Covid 19 Beyond Mere Virus

by  - Abdulfatai Olajide

To the people of Kwara state and Nigeria as a whole.

I wish to greet all in the name of Allah (The Supreme Lord).

As the world currently battling with coronavirus(COVID-19), i pray for Almighty God's protection during and after this global pandemic.

Firstly, i commend the Kwara State government under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for all measures put in place to curtail the spread of the virus which includes among others ; the immediate completion of isolation centre, refurbishment of Kwara oxygen plant, purchased of ventilators and other facilities as well as distribution of palliatives accross the 16 LGAs of the state.
It is very important to remind all that the fight against the current global pandemic can not be left only to government if we are to get rid of it.
Therefore, i will like to implore all to play our roles as good citizens by strictly follow the government directives(stay at home order) and to follow all guidelines and protocols issued by health authorities including those from NCDC by maintaing proper personal higiene, avoid social gathering etc.
Please let us support the government in its effort to curtail the spread of the virus.
In Islam, obedience to the law, order of the land
and directives from authorities is a religious duty ( Qur'an 4:60).

Secondly, it is very saddened that Muslims and Christians were unable to observe 3 Jummah prayers and 3 Sunday services consecutively (though, to curtail the spread of COVID-19).
Indeed, everything occurs according to the will and divine wisdom of Almighty Allah. At this time of global pandemic, it is important for all to increase our prayers and supplications to Almighty Allah with languages and tones of servant-hood.
The fact that Allah commanded us to establish prayers in congregations even at times of fears like this indicates that doing so at this time is obligatory.

It is on this note that i call on everybody especially, the religious leaders to increase prayers to the Almighty for HIS define interventions. Because, if this persist i am of the opinion that devil will systematically takeover the hearts of many since the spiritual benefits of congregational prayers is no more presently. And many people only attends Mosques and Churches on Fridays and Sundays to listen to the words of Almighty God.

Even if the religious leaders will seek government approval to approve designated mosques and churches for limited numbers of selected believers and religious leaders to cry to Almighty God at this critical time with effective adherence to  Preventive Measures .

We hope in Allah that this will soon be thing of past in Kwara and the rest of the world.

My sincere greetings to our Christian brothers and sisters celebrating Easter today.

May God protect all of us during and after this global pandemic and give the victims of the virus quick recovery.

Please!!! Stay @ home and Stay Safe.
